Getting Started

Start with a clean empty stable. Rubber mats can be left on the stable floor.

Initially five to six bales are required to bed down a 12ft x 12ft stable depending on the depth of bed required.

Open a bale at a time and with a shavings fork toss the shavings into the air so as to loosen and aerate, then spread evenly on the stable floor to the required depth.

To help prevent horses being cast when rolling build a bank of shavings along each wall.

You will require one to two bales per week to maintain your horses' bed.

Caring for a Supreme bed is very simple.

Remove droppings either with a shaving fork or by hand using gloves.

Locate wet patches usually found at the base of the bed and remove with a shaving fork.

Shavings may be taken up and tossed to one corner of the stable. Sweep the stable floor. The bed can then be re-laid adding any new shavings to maintain the depth of bed required.

Remember if you are taking the bed up daily to rotate the corner that the shavings are lifted to.

Alternatively if you do not wish to take the bed up or just want to save time, do not disturb the bed any further after removing droppings and wet patches, and replenish shavings when required.
